Dreamworks Animation and Netflix will collaborate to bring viewers six new original animated series in the new year, the media giants said in a joint announcement on December 12. These will include shows based on existing Dreamworks properties as well as adaptations of cult classics like the Filmnation cartoon She-Ra: Princess of Power.

The first of these is Trolls: The Beat Goes On, which will follow up on the events of the 2016 animated film Trolls. The series is set to make its debut on Netflix on January 19. The dates of the rest are to be announced.

Netflix describes the She-Ra series as a “modern take on the ‘80s girl power icon”, with Eisner Award-winning comic book writer and artist Noelle Stevenson serving as the executive producer.

The Boss Baby: Back in Business, based on the 2017 animated film The Boss Baby, will revolve around the eponymous character trying to maintain the “work-life balance of a modern career baby”.

Other shows in the works are The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, based on Dav Pilkey’s children’s novel series and two more installments of Guillermo Del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy. The trilogy began with the 2016 series Trollhunters, a Dreamworks animation created for Netflix. The companies are also developing an original series called Harvey Street Kids.

The two companies inked a deal in 2013 to present 12 original series with more than 300 hours of programming.
