The animated hit Gnomeo and Juliet (2011) explored the rivalry between the gnomes that populated the gardens of the Montagues and the Capulets. In the sequel Sherlock Gnomes by John Stevenson, who co-directed Kung Fu Panda, friends and family members of the since-married Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt) go missing. For assistance, they call upon renowned detective Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp).
Gnomes and his sidekick Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor) take charge amidst a raft of child-friendly jokes about “getting smashed” and no ship, Sherlock”. The voice cast includes Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Ozzy Osbourne and Mary J Blige. The music is by Elton John and his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin. The movie will be released on March 23 2018.
