Warner Bros India and Bollywood production company Azure Entertainment will remake Andrew Lau and Alan Mak’s acclaimed Hong Kong crime drama Infernal Affairs (2002). The director and cast are yet to be decided.

Starring Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang, the movie is about an undercover policeman who infiltrates a gang at the same time as a member of the gang becomes a police officer. Infernal Afffairs had two sequels, and was remade by Martin Scorsese as The Departed (2006), starring Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg.

“We are looking for a director for the Infernal Affairs remake,” Azure Entertainment CEO Sunir Kheterpal told The Hollywood Reporter. “We will set the film in contemporary times since the original was set in 2002.” Azure Entertainment recently produced Rocky Handsome (2016), the official remake of South Korean action film The Man From Nowhere (2010).

The Indian adaptation is the first of two titles that Warner Bros will produce and distribute for Indian audiences.
