Telugu filmmaker and producer CV Reddy has been appointed chairman of the jury that will decide India’s entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars. According to a report in The Times of India, this is the first time in 60 years that a Telugu filmmaker has been chosen as the chairman of the jury that makes the recommendation. Between September 16 and 23, Reddy will watch potential entries at the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad. The Film Federation of India will then send India’s official entry to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hands out the Oscar awards, by October 1.

Reddy has produced close to 12 films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. He had also served as a member of the Oscar jury in India in 2012.

The Film Federation of India has ased all film trade bodies to send their nominations by September 10. Last year, Tamil film Visaranai directed by Vetrimaaran was India’s official entry in this category.

The 90th Academy Awards will be presented on March 4, 2018 ,in Los Angeles.
