French director Michel Gondry has always had an out-of-the-box approach to shooting advertisements and music videos. For a new short Detour, shot entirely on the iPhone 7, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director tells a simple story about a girl and her bicycle but populates the environment with quirky images, including talking fish. Even restricted by the his equipment, Gondry retains his usual sense of humour and his ability to deliver charming animation.

The 10-minute film is part of Apple’s campaign to prove the filmmaking capabilities of the iPhone. The company has also released a series of behind-the-scenes videos, where Gondry explains how he achieved slow-motion, shot at night, and did a timelapse.
