Apart from Akira and Don’t Breathe, the releases for September 2 include a Jackie Chan comedy and the arthouse film Island City.

Akira AR Murugadoss’s official remake of the Tamil movie Mouna Guru (2011) does a gender swap. The original film featured Arulnidhi as the college student with martial arts skills who comes in the way of corrupt police officers. In Akira, Sonakshi Sinha plays the lead, while filmmaker and occasional actor Anurag Kashyap is the grubby-handed policeman who makes the mistake of challenging our heroine. Also starring Konkona Sensharma, Amit Sadh and Teena Singh.

Don’t Breathe In Fede Alvarez’s second film after his 2013 reboot of Evil Dead, a trio of thieves makes the mistake of trying to rob a blind war veteran. Stephen Lang plays the visually challenged target who turns out to have the upper hand, while Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette and Daniel Zovatto play the robbers who get more than they bargained for.

Sunshine Music Tours and Travels Producer Shailendra Singh turns director with a road movie designed to promote the annual electronic dance music festival Sunburn that he has been organising in Goa for several years. Sunny Kaushal plays Sunburn, who sets out on a road trip to Goa along with a bunch of young people. The film includes footage from Sunburn’s 2015 edition.

Island City Ruchika Oberoi’s debut weaves together three stories set in Mumbai. Vinay Pathak plays a corporate drone who is ordered to “have fun” as part of a management activity aimed at increasing productivity. Amruta Subhash is the housewife whose life changes for the better after her husband goes into a coma. Tannishtha Chatterjee plays a press worker whose dreams take wind after she starts receiving anonymous love letters.

Skiptrace Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Deep Blue Sea) steers this Jackie Chan vehicle. The Hong Kong star plays a police detective who teams up with an American con artist (Johnny Knoxville) in taking down a crime boss (Winston Chao). Chinese star Fan Bingbing, recently named by Forbes magazine as one of the world’s top-earning actresses, completes the cast.
