The contribution of the Nandy sisters to the international cup song trend has reached the ears of Sonu Nigam. The singer recently shared a video of Antara Nandy, a music talent show finalist, and her sister Ankita performing “Piya Tose Naina Lage Re” from Guide (1965).

This improvisational style involves clapping and producing a rhythm using plastic cups. The Nandy siblings have previously tried to match the pulsating beats of “Humma Humma” (Bombay, 1995).

Antara Nandy was a finalist in the television reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs in 2009. Born in 1999, Nandy hails from Assam. She got her first major break when she sang “Ei Jibon Nohoi” for the Assamese music album Ei Jibon Nohoy Xuna Bondhu (2010), which included distinguished singers such as Alka Yagnik and Kavita Krishnamurthy.

Her future is bright: she is studying Hindustani classical vocals at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata under Ustaad Wasim Ahmed Khan and is also a scholar at KM Music Conservatory run by the AR Rahman Foundation in Chennai. Until she lands her big album, cups and home-made videos will have to do.
